PORT ROYAL, Pa. (October 25, 2019) – Coming into Friday’s World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series event at Port Royal Speedway, Donny Schatz had won the previous two events at the “Speed Palace” and hadn’t finished outside of the top three since 2014.

Entering the Nittany Showdown weekend with a 32 point gap between himself and point leader Brad Sweet, Schatz needed that string of success to continue to have a shot at his 11th series title.

Schatz and his Toco Warranty / Ford Performance No. 15 entry left no doubt that he was the class of the field as he led all 30 trips around the half-mile oval to claim his third consecutive victory at Port Royal Speedway and 11th World of Outlaws win of the season.

“These guys are incredible,” said Schatz in victory lane of the Ford Performance and Tony Stewart Racing team. “This is obviously a different powerplant and it’s taken a lot of work from the ground up. When it’s cool out like this, these engines pump a lot of fuel and air through them. We’ve got a little extra air and fuel going through tonight with the Ford. Hats off to those guys. It’s been a fun project. To be able to get two wins here in the last couple of weeks has been great.”

Schatz began the night by timing in 12th quick in Flight A and winning his heat. From there, the Fargo, N.D. driver drew the outside front row for Dash No. 1 and won it to earn the pole position for the feature.

As the green flag flew on the 30-lap main event, the FPS 410 engine propelled Schatz into the lead in the opening set of corners with Brian Brown in tow. Schatz built up a 10 car length lead over the rest of the field until it was erased by the red flag on lap 12.

On the ensuing restart, Schatz took off by five car lengths as Brown and Anthony Macri battled for the runner-up spot. Schatz checked out by 15 car lengths during the final green flag run, but a hard-charging Macri threatened in the late stages.

Macri closed to within three car lengths of Schatz exiting turn four on the final laps, but Schatz’s momentum on the high side carried him to the win.

Saturday’s Nittany Showdown finale has been flexed to an earlier start time of 1:00pm ET. With three races left in the season, Schatz knows his opportunities are limited.

“Heck, we are running out of races to win but it’s good to get this won tonight,” he said.

With Sweet finishing in 12th, the points gap is now down to eight points.

“We just have to focus on what we do. There isn’t anything I can do to affect what he does,” said Schatz. “We’ve never won a championship worrying about who we are racing against or what they were doing. Obviously what my guys – Scuba, Brad and Jacob – are doing is working. They are making the right changes to the car.”

Schatz and the entire Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing team would like to thank Toco WarrantyFord PerformanceCurb RecordsSage Fruit, Absolute Automation & Security and J&J Auto Racing for their continued support.
