FARGO, N.D. (July 25, 2018) – The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series returned to central Pennsylvania in hopes of Mother Nature allowing for a full weekend of racing. While the first two shows were completed in their entirety, Saturday’s $20,000-to-win Summer Nationals at Williams Grove Speedway was canceled due to rain.

The first event of the week was the rescheduled Gettysburg Clash at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, Pennsylvania on Thursday, July 19th.

After timing in 15th quick out of 43 cars, Schatz just missed out on the Sears Craftsman Dash by finishing third in heat race number three. That lined up the nine-time and defending World of Outlaws champion 11th on the grid for the 35-lap A-main.

Schatz worked his way forward throughout the race and brought the Textron Off Road / Ford Performance No. 15 home in the fourth position.

On Friday, July 20th, Schatz looked poised to capture his 16th World of Outlaws win of the season. After timing in eighth quick and racing to runner-up finishes in his heat and the Sears Craftsman Dash, Schatz rolled from the outside of the front row for the main event.

The Fargo, N.D. driver took the lead from pole sitter, Lucas Wolfe, on the opening lap. Schatz held a comfortable lead over Lance Dewease for the majority of the race until the caution came out with seven laps to go.

On the restart, Dewease was all over Schatz but he didn’t have enough to get by for the lead. With six laps remaining, Dewease executed a slide job to take the point. Schatz battled back but wasn’t able to regain the lead. Schatz had to settle for second at the checkers.

The World of Outlaws were scheduled to make their first of three appearances in the state of New York tonight at Airborne Park Speedway in Plattsburgh, but the event was canceled due to rain.

Schatz will follow the Outlaws to Ransomville Speedway in Ransomville, N.Y. on Friday, July 27th for the Big “R” Outlaw Shootout before heading to Weedsport Speedway in Weedsport, N.Y. for the Empire State Challenge on Saturday, July 28th.

Entering the weekend, Schatz sits atop the Outlaws point standings with a 208 point cushion over Brad Sweet.
