SCHATZ RETURNS TO VICTORY LANE

AUCKLAND, N.Z. – Donny Schatz made good on his plan to score another victory in New Zealand Saturday night at Western Springs Speedway. Schatz, who finished second in the previous meeting, wasn’t to be denied on in the Sprint car main event driving his familiar No. 15 STP/Armor All/Chevrolet Performance J&J.

“We had a really good time and it’s always fun to win,” admitted Schatz. “Last week, we just got behind a little bit and there wasn’t much we could do about it. That’s racing as they say. We came back tonight with winning in mind and we were able to do it.”

Schatz, who last month picked up his fifth World of Outlaws championship, was making his second venture to New Zealand. In 2011, he was victorious in his debut at “The Springs” and last weekend returned for a 10-day visit.

The Fargo, N.D. racer used the high groove around the dirt oval to score the victory in Round Two of the International Sprintcar Classic.

“I’m glad we could take the win this week,” Schatz commented. “I’m feeling 110 percent right now and we thoroughly enjoy it here in New Zealand.”

Schatz was joined on the podium by last week’s winner Jonathan Allard and Jamie McDonald.

The 2012 WoO champion returned home following the victory and will travel to Indianapolis this week for the annual IMIS show.
