SCHATZ OPENS AUSSIE TOUR WITH A FIFTH

BRISBANE, QUS – Reigning World of Outlaws STP Sprint Cars champion Donny Schatz began his Australian tour with a fifth-place finish in Wednesday’s Boxing Night special at Supercheap Auto Archerfield Speedway in Brisbane.

“It was a very trying night after it rained throughout the previous night and into the day yesterday,” said Schatz. “I wasn’t sure we would get the event in, but we did.”

Schatz was aboard the Monte Motorsport J&J finished third and fourth in heat race action. He started the main event ninth and was able to move up to fifth in the 35-lap main event.

“It was one of the most challenging tracks I can remember being on during the last 10 years,” admitted Schatz. “It was very wet and rough, with ruts and holes all over. Not typical of this racetrack at all, but Mother Nature was obviously a race fan today.  Finishing fifth in A was not a bragging point, by any means, but I’m positive that I had the car on one wheel several times. We were able to roll it into the truck with no damage at the end of the night. We have to accept that you can’t win them all, but it is my goal every night.”

Schatz returns to action on Saturday night in another round of Sprintcar Internationals at Supercheap Auto Archerfield Speedway.
